    Cool

IMO just do your best to aid the director and get good footage for YOUR REEL! (there's nothing like using OPM to build up your reel with). If the director chooses to botch production anyway, don't blame yourself! Just save the story for your how-to book someday!

So I just finished the Telecine...

Here is an update. I was shit scared that the film was black--This is due to the fact that the Super8 I shot was damn near black. Even though my proofs were right on I was nervous.

When we got into the booth I told the colorist my thoughts which were to boost the contrast and then we may need to make it lighter. Then as soon as he started his mojo--It looked great. With a few power windows everything was right as rain.

The director was happy I was happy and it all worked out. Plus, the cheque wasn't made of rubber.

    Good Luck

And there you go Nigel, all that worrying for nothing ^_^ Glad to hear it all went well, and came out well and met your expectations too.

Did you work closely with the director?

In an ideal world I would be working with a director for at least a few months prior to shooting. So we could shoot some test film, run some Telecine tests, talk about overall look and feel. Then I could gather my crew, make out my supply requirements, fill out all the paperwork on my behalf.

This director was in over his head. He didn't get the coverage that he should/could have. He is still a bit green. He is also just as focused now as he was before and he understands that it was a learning process.

It would have been nice for me to have a bit more DP say in the whole shoot. I didn't get to screen the Art Dept before this shoot and they were horrible. Plus, we didn't get to shoot our film tests with the actual talent. I never talk with the talent on the set and the director was overwhelmed by other things so it was hard to get him to tell the actors what I needed them to do.

So did I work closely with the director?? Not in the way which I am used to. But he got what he wanted--I got a few more decent bits for my reel.

    Good Luck
